Are canned beans bad for us?

Why are canned beans nutritionally inferior to cooked?

I’ve decided to start my own channel on YouTube, JennyTV. The first topic we are going to size up is ‘canned beans vs cooked’.

You’ll notice that I’m working hard to abandon my need for perfection here…these beginner videos may be a tad choppy with plenty of ‘ums’, but hey…everybody’s gotta start somewhere; for me, that somewhere happens to be my basement. You’ll also notice that ‘Peace and Hummus’ is written – albeit backwards – on the board behind me, and the video may or may not be centred on the page. I’m trying friends, I’m trying.

I’ve split this episode into two parts so they’re shorter for you, hence easier to digest…just like home made beans! Haha.

Welcome Sara, Nutritional Educator

I’m so happy that Sara Gebriel, senior teacher at CSNN and a seasoned Registered Holistic Nutritionist, has come on board to answer popular health food questions.

So here are some details, and some giggles, around five reasons WHY home cooked beans are nutritionally superior to canned beans. And to answer the question ‘Are canned beans bad for us?’, the answer is: ‘Not necessarily, but home made are better’.

Did you enjoy that discussion? Do you have any questions? Leave us a comment and we’ll get back to you.

You’re going to LOVE episode 2! Sara and I dive RIGHT into a big beef with beans – why do they make us so gassy, and what can we do about it?? Good news is, there IS something we can do about it.

Hope to see you on the next episode. If you dig it, please show me some love by commenting, liking, subscribing and sharing.

xo Jenny

P.S. If you’d like more info, NutritionFacts.org has this video on canned beans vs cooked.

P.P.S Please do not confuse my channel with the topless girls in limousines that show up first when you search JennyTV.

  1. Love all the info about canned beans! I’m guilty of throwing half a can of beans in the fridge. Won’t do that any more! Keep the awesome videos coming Jenny Boyle!
